The way we experience music was forever changed 50 years ago, when Bob Dylan plugged in at the Newport Folk Festival. In light of the anniversary of this iconic moment in music, Audi of America created a digital short about “plugging in” and what that phrase means to musicians and their audiences.
Weighing in the meaning of folk music today and how technology impacts their own musical choices are top artists including singer-songwriter Courtney Barnett, Jim James (My Morning Jacket), Colin Meloy (The Decemberists), Bethany Cosentino (Best Coast), and John McCauley (Deer Tick). Holly Laessig of Lucius provides the narration.
Featuring historical perspective from George Wein (Newport Folk Festival and NOLA Jazz Fest founder) and Bill Hanley (Sound Engineer – Newport Folk/Jazz Festivals (1957 – 1975), Woodstock 1969), the short raises the question as to what may be the next plug in moment in music and pop culture.
With the impending launch of the new Audi A3 Sportback e-tron, the video testifies to how plugging in changes everything, and there’s no looking back.
