SOLD! The Newport Yachting Center…

Sold!  To The Peregrine Group…

Yes, the news is sad but true!  The Newport Yachting Center, a well-known and cherished concert and festival venue, has been sold and the closing is expected to take place this November.  The company states that the local noise ordinance is not fitting for the concert business.  The Yachting Center had plead no contest to 10 charges of violating the noise ordinance due to the summertime concerts.  This surprising turn of events happened shortly after the company had invested close to $200,000 for sound barriers.  This decision will undoubtedly impact the amount of visitors to Newport.  The Mooring, The Smokehouse and The Sunset will continue to operate as the company will be leasing the land from the new owners, Peregrine Group.  In addition, some of the well-loved and less loud events will still continue.  You can expect the Newport International Boat Show and the Newport Charter Yacht Show to live on.  Hopefully the other incredible events will be able to find new local venues and continue to bring outsiders across the bridges.  This is definitely a huge change and will be felt all over the city.
