Feeling Lucky? Well, Luckily its March! Spring is upon us!

Spring into the luckiest month by heading over the Newport bridge to see the 58th annual St. Patricks Day Parade in Newport, RI.

You may not find a pot of Gold at the end The Claiborne Pell but on March 15th 2014 rain or shine, you may find a golden experience. The parade begins 11am sharp leaving Newport City Hall and making its way to Carroll Avenue at Saint Augustin’s Church in the heart of the Fifth Ward. They have a 2 hour show planned this year, complete with Pipe Bands, Fife & Drum Corps, Marching Bands, Clown Units and reenactment units. The Street brigade will be flush with local social/community organizations, Boys Scouts, Girl Scouts, Local Schools and non profit organizations. Come celebrate our local hero’s  and enjoy the fire truck display as local and regional fire units parade their way through the streets of Newport.

Those spectating and not participating will have no trouble finding fun once the parade has passed in the many bars and restaurants that have made it a custom to celebrate the Irish in full force this time each year! So gather your Shamrock Green Gear and get ready to have a day full of delight. Some of the Bars open for brunch at 8am so call your favorite brunch spot in Newport and make a reservation. There is plenty of bar hopping to be had up and down the streets of Newport day of. The Newport Blues Cage is featuring Blockhead, Run For Covers, Fast Times, Darik and The Funbags. Check out the many Irish Pubs including but not limited to Buskers, Fastnet, O’Brians Pub, Celtica Public House, Brick Alley Pub  and Griswolds Tavern. Come with cash in hand as there are usually cover charges at the door for the bars that offer live music. The downtown debauchery is not the only way to celebrate the holiday; peruse the following list of events beginning on March 9th that will bless you with the Spirit of the Irish.

This is a parade fund-raiser, and is always a great  family event. Come on down and enjoy the food. Price is $10 adults, $5 children 3-12, (under 3 free).  Live Irish music to follow at 1:00 pm!

The roast is honoring this year’s Grand Marshal, Robert “Bobby” O’Neill.  The event will start at 1:30pm and will end when all roasting in completed.  Tickets are $25.  For advanced tickets call 846-5081
