Wakefield Riverfire Starts Tonight!

The Wakefield Village Association ignites another series of annual events with WAKEFIELD RIVERFIRE beginning on Thursday, June 21st on the Saugatucket River in downtown, historic Wakefield. This first lighting on the Summer Solstice marks the beginning of RiverFire events, which continues every Thursday night, thereafter, all summer long until August 30th from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Enjoy the magnificent views of the Saugatucket River, as the sun peacefully sets, and the wood in the fire basins begin to glow and crackle. Live music from area bands will perform on stage by the river’s edge and Saugatucket Bridge. On Main Street, local vendors will be selling their goods. Downtown shops and restaurants, all in easy walking distance, will be open later than usual. To celebrate the forth-annual Wakefield RiverFire, almost every Thursday will showcase additional programs with family-friendly activities: SUMMER SOLSTICE & JONNYCAKE CENTER EMPTY BOWLS STROLL on June 21st, FULL MOON NIGHT on June 28th, LADIES NIGHT on July 5th, CAR CRUISE NIGHT on July 12th, CONCRETE COUCH LANTERN PARADE on July 19th, ENDLESS SUMMER II on August 16th, and COUNTRY & WESTERN NIGHT on August 30th.

Admission is free for all RiverFire events. There is a suggested $5 donation to ENDLESS SUMMER II for access to Polynesian food, beverages, special entertainment, and three top performing bands. The EMPTY BOWLS STROLL on June 21st will immediately precede RiverFire and will benefit the Jonnycake Center and Welcome House of Peace Dale (details available at the event). It will be held at The Contemporary Theater Company’s outdoor river stage. On each Thursday, non-perishable food donations will also be collected to benefit the Jonnycake Center of Peace Dale. Parking is free in town municipal parking lots and along the street.
