Where to Pick Apples in Rhode Island…Season Starts NOW!

 Nothing beats harvesting your own food; it gives you a connection to what you’re putting into your body. Less abstractly, it’s aapple picking 2 relaxing, family-friendly experience and a great way to enjoy the fall. Many people do not realize how early you can actually start apple picking.  Plenty of these places are already picking or are soon to be open to the public.  Be sure to check the links for picking hours and dates.  In no particular order, here are some of the best places to pick apples in Rhode Island!

1. Hill Orchards in Johnston offers not only apple picking, but also peach picking. Find out more at www.hillorchards.com.

2.Elwood Orchard in North Scituate offers apple picking along with local honey, fresh apple cider, and more. Find out more at www.elwoodorchard.com/.  They are certified organic! NO PICKING THIS YEAR, check site for details.

3. White Oak Farm in North Scituate offers apple picking from 9-5, Tuesday through Sunday, all the way into November. Find out more at www.farmfresh.org/food/farm.php?farm=748.

4. Harmony Farms, also in North Scituate, lets you pick not only apples, but also blueberries, peaches, and raspberries, depending on the season. Learn more at www.harmonyfarmsri.com.

5. Rocky Brook Orchard: Aquidneck Island’s original pick your own Apple Orchard.   They also offer pick your own pears and quince.  Choose from over 80 varieties of apples, including many rare ones! More on the way as trees mature.

6. Dame Farms in Johnston is a medium-sized family farm that offers seasonal apple and strawberry picking. Find out more at www.damefarmandorchards.com.

7. Pippin Orchard is located in Cranston. They have a full twenty acres of fruit trees, with pick your own apples into December. Find out more at www.facebook.com/PippinOrchard.

8. Jaswell’s Farm in Smithfield has pick your own apples, blueberries, blackberries, and strawberries. Learn more about Jaswell’s Farm at www.jaswellsfarm.com.

9. Knight Farm is located in North Scituate. It has a full apple orchard and is particularly family friendly, with hay rides and children’s activities available. Find out more at www.knightfarm.com.

10. Leach Farm and Orchard is located in Greenville. It’s a small farm, just six acres, but what it lacks in size it makes up for in quality. Learn more at www.farmfresh.org/food/farm.php?farm=3048.

11.  Narrow Lane Orchard is located in  North Kingstown, RI at 213 Narrow Lane.  You will find, Honeycrisp, Redfree, Liberty, Hudson, Jonagold, Macintosh, Cortland, Macoun, Empire, Crispin, Fuji and Gala apples.  Click here for more.

12.  Barden Family Orchard is located at 56 Elmdale Rd, North Scituate, RI 02857.  This farm was founded in 1931 and opens this weekend, August 29th for apple picking! Learn more here.

14.  Sweet Berry Farm is located at 915 Mitchell’s Lane in Middletown.  Summer Golden’s are available now…more to come in late September.  There is plenty of berries and other fruits to pick at the farm too.  This 100 acre post and beam farmers market is an experience  in itself.  The chefs are baking tasty treats and the produce is fresh and ready to take home.  Learn more here!

15.  Indian Rock Farm at 99 Burnt Hill Road in Scituate is another great place for picking delicious apples.  They have local honey, jam, pies and of course…APPLES!  Click here for more!

  4. Please add Rocky Brook Orchard in Middletown, RI! We have over 90 varieties of apples, plus many types of quince and pears too! Open weekends only Labor Day through end of October.
