The need for the passage of better beer laws in RI has been written about and shared quite a few times over the past few weeks. However, there is still not enough support and the petition needs more signatures. On Friday night, this matter became personal to me.
A few colleagues and I decided to take our informal meeting to Whaler’s Brewing Co., which was one of my best decisions all week! The brewery is located in an old mill building and you can almost feel the presence of those who have toiled among the walls for hundreds of years. Now, Whaler’s Brewing Co. is occupying the space and pouring their passion into little tasting glasses for all to enjoy. Herein lies the problem, these small tastings are ideal for sampling the goods. However, when one finds a flavor to suit their fancy, they can not purchase a pint of beer. This is due to the old-school laws built around breweries. At least every other person that stepped up to the tasting area asked if they could have a pint, each one equally caught off guard that the brewery was not legally able to serve pints. While our experience at Whaler’s Brewing Co. was incredible, it was also quite clear that these laws are holding these local breweries back. I was grateful for my tasting flight as I truly enjoyed trying each brew. After tasting, I had settled on my personal favorite….Hazelnut Stout. Naturally, I would like to return for a pint of this well balanced stout. I still plan to return (often) but I saw first hand how passing a bill to allow pint sales in breweries would only create a better experience for all. You can sign the bill here and please share this with your friends to allow all of these breweries to continue to grow and thrive!
