Ebisu
Rhode Island has its fair share of pan-Asian restaurants. But if you’re interested in Japanese food specifically, or you’ve always wanted to try the real deal, stop by Ebisu. Ebisu is located at 38 Pontiac Avenue in Providence in an unassuming brick building. But inside, you’ll find authentic Japanese cuisine in a neat, intimate setting. Ebisu specializes in Yakitori, a grilled chicken dish popular both in Japan and worldwide, as well as shabu-shabu, a form of beef stew originating in the port city of Osaka. Or, you could try their selection of Japanese noodles. See what a real ramen dish tastes like, or help yourself to Ebisu’s assortment of Japanese tapas, from wasabi octopus to garlic chili edamame. Ebisu also has an expansive drinks menu, including a selection of sake, the Japanese rice-wine, and Japanese beers like Asahi and Kirin.
While their wide selection may be a bit overwhelming for a first-timer, you can’t go wrong with anything on Ebisu’s menu.
