Fall Fun For Kids in RI
Fall in New England is a great time to be a kid. From classic fall diversions like building leaf piles to organized festivals, there are plenty of fun, family-friendly activities around Rhode Island this autumn.
There are a number of family-friendly fairs, some educational, some practical, and some just fun. The Norman Bird Sanctuary is holding a Harvest Fair on October 4th and 5th, and will feature children’s entertainers, crafts, games, competitions, and a barrel train for younger kids. Coggeshall Farm in Bristol is holding their own Harvest Fair on September 20th and 21st. Not only will it feature a lot of fun activities like live music, arts and crafts, and a watermelon seed spitting contest, it’s also an educational experience. There will be live demonstrations of a variety of Colonial-era crafts and trades. Learn more at http://www.coggeshallfarm.org.
Even adults will be wowed by the annual Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular at Roger Williams Park Zoo. The Jack-O-Lantern spectacular attracts visitors from all over to see more than five thousand intricately-carved jack-o-lanterns. The Spectacular runs from October 2nd through November 2nd. Roger Williams is already a beautiful spot and, on a cool autumn night, the way the jack-o-lanterns light the park is spectacular. On September 28th, there will be the Cluny Country Fair on Brenton Road in Newport. In addition to raffles, refreshments, and live music, there will be a number of fun field activities for the kids, including hay rides.
If you’re looking for classic fall fun, you should stop by one of the many farms in Rhode Island. Festival Farm in Hope Valley, for example, has hay rides, pony rides, fresh apple cider, and even a petting zoo. Another way to enjoy fall fun for kids in Rhode Island…visit a corn maze and get lost in the fun! Try apple or pumpkin picking too, this way you can make a delicious pie and carve your Jack-o-Lantern!
