Whether it’s for health, for charity, or just to see how fast and how far you can go, running races are a popular activity, especially now when the weather has landed somewhere between scorching and freezing. Here are ten upcoming Rhode

Island runs.

1.  On Saturday, September 6th, the annual NK5K will start and finish at North Kingstown High School. Find out more at www.nk5k.net.

2.  Also on Saturday, September 6th, Run Around the Block is a 15 kilometer (A little over nine mile) race around Block Island. If you want some beautiful scenery in your race, this is the one to go to. Learn more at www.active.com/block-island-ri/running/distance-running-races/39th-annual-run-around-the-block-2014.

3.  On Saturday, September 13th, the East Bay 5K will be held in Bristol, will take you all throughout the beautiful Colt State Park. All proceeds will go towards the East Bay Coalition for the Homeless. Find out more at eastbayhomeless.org/events/race-info.

4.  On Sunday, September the 14th, The Siegfried M. Pueschel 5K race will be held at Goddard Park in East Greenwich. All proceeds from the race will go towards the Down Syndrome Society of Rhode Island. Learn more atg2racereg.webconnex.com/pueschel5k2014.

5.  On Saturday, September the 20th, the Fifth Annual Race for Matt and Grace will be held at Bryant University in Smithfield. This race will be a 5K, and all proceeds will go towards research for the debilitating neurological disorder Friedreich’s Ataxia.  Click here for more details! 

6.  On Sunday, September the 21st, the Harvest Wine Run will be held in Middletown. The race will be run through scenic vinyards, and will end with a wine sampling. Learn more at www.harvestwinerun.com.

7.  On Saturday, September the 27th, the Run for the Fallen race will take place at Colt State Park. This race is free, and is meant to memorialize lost servicemen and servicewomen. Learn more at runforthefallenri.org/event-info.

8.  On Sunday, September the 28th, In Step for Autism will be held at Colt State Park in Bristol. This 5K will raise money for autism research. Learn more at www.firstgiving.com/asari-groden.

9.  On Saturday, October the 4th, the Newport 5K Mansion Run will be held. This run starts and ends at Salve Regina and will take you by many of the historic mansions of Newport. Learn more at www.salve.edu/run.

10.  Finally, on October the 5th, the Ocean Road 10K will be held, starting at the Point Judith lighthouse and ending at Narragansett Town Beach. Proceeds from this run will be donated to the Narragansett Historical Society. Learn more at www.oceanroad10k.com.
