Rhode Island’s Local Food Fest 2014
This August, you can get a taste of what makes Rhode Island food so great. The annual Local Food Fest in Newport promises a sophisticated atmosphere, a great view, and amazing food.
While the main events start at 5:00, savory starters and champagne, as well as access to the raw bar, will begin at 4:00.
Once the doors open at 5:00, the real festivities begin. There will be a silent auction, live cooking demonstrations, access to their photo booth to help you remember the day, and live music by the talented bluegrass band Big River Stomp.
There will be a great variety of vendors from all over the state. Your food will come straight from local farms like the Absalona Greenhouse in Chepachet, which specializes in fresh greens, herbs, and a pesto that is worth a taste. Or you can try something from the always popular Shartner Farms in Exeter, famed for their pies and fresh-picked fruits. You’ll also find Baffoni’s Poultry Farm out of Johnston. Founded in 1935 and family-owned ever since, your average frozen supermarket fare doesn’t even compare to Baffoni’s chicken and turkey.
About a dozen local chefs from some of Rhode Island’s best restaurants will be preparing your food, including the chefs from the Grange in Providence, the Boat House in Tiverton, and the lovely Persimmon in Bristol.
The event will take place outside of Castle Hill Inn, located at 590 Ocean Drive in Newport. The location offers a great view of Newport Bay, and is a great spot to watch the sunset. You should remember that there are a limited number of tickets, so if you plan on going, order your tickets sooner than later. Tickets are $125 at the door, or $100 online.
