Why Rhode Island…Why Not?

Rhode Island…Why?

Being a native Rhode Islander, I can answer this question with ease,  as it has been my habitat for most of  my life.  I have lived in a place where the farmlands still meet the sea.  Although this dwindles with each passing year, it can still be found.  You can watch the corn from Carpenters Farm burst through the dirt as you listen to the waves toss moonstones back and forth.  To me, that is the answer to the question…why Rhode Island.  Yet there are still more answers to the question.

The naturalist in you would find serenity in a long hike through Arcadia.  At times, you forget how close you are to the actual road where humans are going about their daily doings.  In this part of the world you can find antique shops scattered about like the back woods of Maine, and I mean that in a good way.  There is a part of me that thinks the antiques hold much more beauty than the newer versions.  Take that as literal as you wish.

The  connoisseur in you might find yourself  looking to find wine to taste at a local vineyard or perhaps catch a polo match.  In this case, Newport is your place to be.  You can experience foods of all sorts and relish in the local sports such as polo and yachting.  Again…another reason why Rhode Island is a great place to be.

Rhode Island…why not?

If there is a part of you that is looking to shake a tail feather, make Providence on your list of places to be.  You can start by learning the Salsa at a number of local Providence clubs.  From that point on…your night will inevitably get better.  This dance is a great way to amp up your social life!  You can go from local farm to polo match to a great night of dancing.  That is Rhode Island!

If you love food, then you will fall helplessly in love with this state…if you aren’t already.  Federal Hill offers a culinary experience in fine Italian cuisine and other specialties.  Newport has an eclectic array of dining destinations that will suit any pallet.  Head further south and find some great local seafood in South County and Westerly.  These areas also boast quite a selection of restaurants. Many of the restaurants in the state are taking advantage of the local bounty from the farmlands and offering up farm fresh menu items.  Of course, Rhode Island is known for some particular foods such as clam cakes, chowda’, Dels, and coffee milk.  Worry not, you can sample these local treats all over the state.

Not to mention the fact that Rhode Island, known as the ocean state,  is brimming with beach life during the summer season.  From Westerly to Narragansett and all the surrounding towns, you can find all you desire in the way of beachiness.  Restaurants that allow you to keep your toes in the sand are accompanied by  little souvenir shops to remind you of Rhode Island, even after you leave.  Block Island is a little bit of RI heaven…just a ferry ride away.  Every season in RI offers something beautiful!  From summery shores to fall foliage…this state has it all.  So, if it is a vacation you are looking for…make Rhode Island your choice.

Rhode Island…because it is worth the trip!
